Winter hike to the Bürglalm in Dienten am Hochkönig

No sooner has a delicate, white winter dress draped over the summit of emotions than the three Hochkönig communities transform into designated winter hiking paradises. Several cleared, well-groomed winter hiking trails lead through the snow-covered nature, connect the mountain villages with each other and now and then dare to venture into lofty heights. Via the Bürglalm in Dienten

The Bürglalm or “Bürgl”, as it is often called, is located in the heart of the alpine pastures of the Hochkönig massif at 1,597 m above sea level. From here there is a wonderful all-round view of the Dientner Grasberge, the Leoganger Steinberge, the Steinerne Meer and the Hohe Tauern. The managed Alm is open in summer and winter and is one of the most popular gourmet huts in the Salzburg region. Hearty delicacies and sweet temptations from regional cuisine strengthen tired hikers and make stopping off a must on this challenging winter hike on the Hochkönig.

Speaking of hikes: the starting point is Haus Dienten in Dienten am Hochkönig. Now it goes uphill almost constantly in about two hours with a total distance of 5.2 km and 546 meters of altitude. The forest path to the Lengthalalm, a prepared winter hiking trail, leads mainly through wooded area until a junction on the left points to the Bürglalm. Now the somewhat steeper part of this route begins, which first leads to the reservoir and finally makes the Alm the destination below the Wastlhöhe valley station. If you want to save yourself the return trip, take the Bürglalmbahn back to Dienten.
